Spring Inspiration

 

We love Spring! Everything starts to just come alive in the Spring. Smells, colors, and longer days return and the dreaded cold Winter is left behind us. This time of year we gain so much inspiration from the new beginnings all around us. 

New key chains are now available for Earth Day at our website. They are made with reclaimed Scrabble tiles and are a perfect gift or keepsake for remembering Earth Day.

Tiles For A Cause

We have been given a wonderful opportunity to help raise money for Relay for Life. Its an event that helps communities celebrate the lives of people who have battled all types of Cancer. This year our friend, who is also participating, helped us design special handmade Scrabble tile pendants to be sold at her local Relay for Life annual fundraiser. We will be donating our time to make these one of a kind keepsakes. There will be necklaces as well as key chains available to purchase. They will be sold with all the profits going to the cause.

Clay Pendants

New projects and ideas are buzzing around our studio every day. We will soon be adding handmade clay jewelry to our store. Here are some samples of what we have recently made. Its still in the works, and lots of fun to learn about!

We will also be adding more of our adorable Scrabble Tile Pendants. Customers love these unique and affordable gifts. Images are designed and scaled on the computer and then tiles are cast in a durable, non toxic water proof resin. This stuff is strong! If anyone has any specific requests let us know before the end of the month when we will be finishing up the first couple batches.

Stay tuned for these and more unique bead work pieces in the coming weeks...We are always working on something at The Crafty Turtle- who said turtles were slow anyway?

Finally Fall Has Arrived

Ahh, you can finally start to smell it in the air. Fall. This is the first night here on the East Coast the air is crisp and you want to cuddle up in a sweater. For the last few weeks its been very warm, humid and wet! We are hoping that these cooler temps will start to stick around and October will feel like it should. Its somewhat insane to be raking leaves in your yard in shorts! And what about all those great Fall fashions and jewelry ready to wear?

What Gets Me Through

Some days beading can be a bit stressful. Sometimes you need a little help.
The one item I have seriously underestimated is Thread Heaven. Ahhhh.....

Thread Heaven

What is this? Well, for beaders its a lifesaver. When you are beading and passing the same piece of thread through tiny holes over and over again it can cause some problems. Knots, fraying, KNOTS, sometimes really big ones. It is sometimes unavoidable. And I never really appreciated it until yesterday. I recently started making more pieces using beading thread. My partner is usually responsible for most of the intricate woven bead work on our site. I never understood how he could have so much patience with all those tiny beads. Now I know. All you do is pass your string over the little block of thread heaven and it coats your string with a waxy conditioner. It protects your string and makes it less likely to tangle or fray. Its literally heaven. What else gets me through?

Foo Fighters, Wasting Light.
Cant get enough of it. For me working without music is like trying to drive a car without gas. Its not gonna work. I think it might be the fact that I can put this on and not skip any tracks. Its a solid cd. Those are hard to come by these days. Maybe it sounds so good because its not digital. It was recorded in Dave Grohl's garage. 

All I know is that last night after a stressful session with a tangled piece of string. Thread Heaven and Foo Fighters saved the day.

Its the little things in life that make me happy :)
